Client Project
A client asked whether we could establish laboratory and office space at their new site or recommend someone who could. We arranged a visit and surveyed the premises, a former accountant’s office with built-in veneered tambour cupboards, tables around pillars, and two small glass meeting rooms. In reception, the meeting room and the boardroom we noted a lowered ceiling, worn carpet tiles, and outdated data infrastructure.
The Brief
- Build two laboratories with workbenches and electrical installations
- Fit UV window filters and a sterilised water system to two sinks
- Pipe in two types of gases
- Create a tech area, office space, a boardroom, and a breakout/collaboration area
- Deliver within four weeks to a budget of ~£190,000
Programme & Approval
Following our survey, we prepared detailed plans, confirmed the scope and a budget of approximately £190,000, and secured approval. We set a four-week programme and mobilised the team to start in the first week of August.
Delivery & Outcome
Over the four weeks we installed Cat 6 data cabling and new vinyl safety flooring, then delivered two laboratories complete with workbenches, sinks fed by a sterilised water system, UV window filters, and gas lines to each bench, with a dedicated write-up area in each lab. The tech area received anti-static flooring, workbenches and seating. The office was laid out with bench desking and poseur-height tables with power to support flexible working and make the most of the view. The boardroom gained a new ceiling, table, chairs and storage, and we created a breakout/collaboration zone that’s relaxed yet work-ready. The project was completed on schedule and within budget.
